Southend have extended the contract of midfielder Jack Payne and loan deal of Yeovil defender Jakub Sokolik.
Payne, 20, has triggered an extension until the summer of 2016 by starting 10 League Two games this season.
He has scored five goals in 17 games in all competitions so far this term.
Czech Sokolik, 21, initially joined the Shrimpers for a month at the end of October and, even though he has featured just twice, will now stay until 3 January.
"Jack is a big player for us and he's a young man who is just at the start of what I'm sure will be an exciting career," Southend boss Phil Brown told the club website.
"We've seen (keeper) Daniel Bentley come through to be in the first team and now an outfield player has come through to play regularly, which shows we're heading in the right direction."
