Tyrone Barnett scored a last-minute winner as Oxford came from behind to beat Bury at the Kassam Stadium.
The visitors went close to taking the lead in first-half stoppage time but Andrew Tutte's free-kick hit the bar.
Danny Mayor's decisive finish gave the Shakers the lead before Craig Jones turned Danny Hylton's low cross into his own net to draw the sides level.
With both sides pressing for victory, Oxford debutant Wes Burns broke forward and crossed for Barnett to head home.
Bury manager David Flitcroft told BBC Radio Manchester:
"The first-half really concerned me, we couldn't really pass it with any purpose.
"In the second-half we got good chances and a really good goal. They've not had to earn the result, we've given them two goals.
"You've got to have that killer instincts, you know, to see a game out. Even at 1-1 we've not respected the point."
