Match ends, Cambridge United 0, Shrewsbury Town 0.
Cambridge extended their unbeaten home run to five games after a stalemate against Shrewsbury, who missed their chance to go second in League Two.
Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro wasted a first-half chance to put the visitors ahead.
Kwesi Appiah came the closest to scoring for Cambridge, but Mark Ellis blocked his goalbound effort.
Shrewsbury twice hit the bar through defender Nat Knight-Percival and midfielder Bobby Grant, who was also foiled late on by keeper Chris Dunn.
The visitors had to make a change at half-time, bringing on keeper Mark Halstead for his Town league debut in goal in place of Jayson Leutwiler.
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"It is absolute frustration for us. It's another point on the road, and it keeps us moving forward, but Cambridge will be a lot happier with the result than we will be. They've got off the hook here.
"I couldn't have asked any more performance-wise from our players, but we need to put the ball in the back of the net. We had chance after chance after chance and, on another day, we'd have put them away.
"I am really pleased with the performance from our players. They deserve a lot of credit, coming here and producing a good performance, when a lot of other sides have come here this season and struggled."
