Torquay United manager Chris Hargreaves has backed his side to reach the Conference play-offs.

Tuesday's was only their second in seven games, but put them two points outside the top five.

"If you get two or three wins together you're always going to get close to the play-offs," he told BBC Devon.

"That's what we've got to maintain, that belief that we will get in there because I believe we can do something this season."

Torquay were relegated from the Football League last season and have taken time to settle in the Conference.

Ryan Bowman's goal against Halifax was his fifth in seven games for the Gulls, while strike-partner Duane Ofori-Acheampong netted his first since the end of September as they overcame difficult conditions for just their second home win in two months.

"They're a side fancied for promotion, they've spent money on players that means they should be up there, and it's a great win.

"There's some young boys out there and they'll learn so much from these games, about how to finish a game off, how important it is to retain possession, positional sense, cover, it's a huge win for them and I'm so pleased for them because they deserve it," said Hargreaves.

"We've just got to look forward and believe that we're going to do something and that's been the theme for the last few days."
