Notts County manager Shaun Derry said their gritty 1-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Doncasterexternal-link was fair reward for selecting a strong side.

Liam Noble's strike earned a Northern Area semi-final date against Preston on Tuesday, 16 December and they are now just two rounds away from Wembley.

"I am really proud of the boys," Derry told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"It's a competition we have taken seriously all season and that was borne out by the team I picked."

Derry, whose side are also seventh in League One, added: "I thought the shape, discipline and understanding of how we wanted to play was great.

"Every single person did a good job - including the subs who made a real impression."
