Burton Albion missed the chance to go top of League Two after a goalless draw at play-off chasing Southend.

Kevan Hurst's curling shot was tipped wide by visiting keeper Jon McLaughlin early on in a poor first-half.

McLaughlin kept the Brewers in the game after the break as he palmed Ben Coker's low free-kick around the post before saving Barry Corr's header.

Stuart Beavon had two good chances for the visitors but shot straight at Daniel Bentley on both occasions.

The result for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Burton means they stay a point behind Wycombe in second place having played two games more, while Southend move up into fifth.
