Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Morecambe

Andy Mangan came off the bench to grab a late winner as Shrewsbury beat Morecambe to climb to within two points of the League Two summit.

Morecambe came close to opening the scoring through Paul Mullin but his effort was brilliantly saved.

After that the hosts dominated as first Bobby Grant and then James Collins saw efforts come back off the post.

Scott Davies made a host of superb saves to keep the score-sheet blank before Mangan's late close-range shot.

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"I am very pleased with the performance. Morecambe fight for their manager and are very organised, but we knew we were better, kept track of the play on a tricky surface and thankfully we had the opening to take the win.

"The team are creating chances, we didn't panic and I didn't feel the need to change it - you could just tell that we were going to pick the lock and get the breakthrough.

"I am pleased with Andy, to get the goal, he was a fox in the box, a real poacher. He is a fit lad but there were a lot of good performances from everyone, which is great to see.

"I love this time of the year, the atmosphere seems a little bit different. We'll look forward to the game with Oxford and we are at a very good place at the moment."
