Rangers 2-0 Livingston

A goal either side of half-time secured victory for Rangers against Scottish Championship bottom side Livingston.

Fraser Aird's drive put Rangers ahead within the opening 10 minutes.

Ally McCoist's side struggled to really impose themselves against Livi, who were playing their fist match since the departure of manager John McGlynn.

Rangers' second arrived when Simon Mensing nodded the ball into his own net, ensuring defeat for caretaker manager Mark Burchill.

With Rangers having confirmed on Monday that McCoist had tendered his resignation, the Ibrox side were playing the first home match of the 52-year-old's 12-month notice period.

It was only a fantastic Steve Simonsen save that prevented Livi going ahead, the goalkeeper getting down to his left to deny Danny Mullen.

Aird quickly put Rangers in front, the midfielder firing the ball goalwards after Darren McGregor had headed on Steven Smith's corner.

Simonsen almost spilled Keaghan Jacobs' shot from the left in front of Jordan White before White nodded straight at the keeper from four yards out.

In the second half, Livingston goalkeeper Darren Jamieson did well to claw away an effort from Nicky Law and Lee Wallace lifted a shot over the visitors' goal from 10 yards.

But Rangers did double their advantage when Mensing diverted Aird's cross past Jamieson with an errant header.

A consolation goal now looked like the most positive outcome on offer to Burchill's side but White contrived to hit the post from a yard out.
