Bulgaria are hoping to bring Monaco striker Dimitar Berbatov out of international retirement.
The 33-year-old former Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham striker quit Bulgaria international duty in 2010 after scoring 48 goals in 74 caps.
Ivaylo Petev, who was appointed Bulgaria coach on Thursday, said: "I have the ambition to meet him and talk. We'll see what will happen."
Bulgaria are fourth in Euro 2016 qualifying Group H.
Berbatov has scored five goals in 12 Ligue 1 appearances this season for Monaco, and helped his side reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.
