Match ends, Charlton Athletic 1, Cardiff City 1.
A late equaliser from 10-man Charlton denied Cardiff City a second away league win of the season.
Tom Adeyemi headed the visitors into the lead from Aron Gunnarsson's long throw. And it got worse for Charlton, with Callum Harriott sent off before the break for a tackle on Craig Noone.
But heavy second-half Charlton pressure was rewarded though when Johann Berg Gudmundsson levelled from 25 yards.
Both sides remain level on points just outside the Championship top 10.
Neither went into the match in form, with Charlton having won only one of their last nine and Cardiff without a win in three.
The Welsh side had lost two of those last three matches but, despite having only won once away in the league all season, they started the stronger in London.
Gunnarsson's long throw was causing the hosts problems and it was from one of these that an unmarked Adeyemi rose to head home at the far post.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men when Harriott launched into a late and high challenge on Noone and was shown a straight red card.
Charlton, though, produced a spirited second-half display, with George Tucudean's back-heel hitting a post and Gudmundsson shooting against the woodwork.
Tucudean's flick was then cleared off the line by Sean Morrison before Gudmundsson's stunning strike deservedly levelled with two minutes left.
Charlton boss Bob Peeters: "In the second half we battered them. This is the best I've seen us play, especially with 10 men.
"Everything was in it. A lot of determination - we scored a cracking goal, we hit the post twice. Only the result was unfair I think, but for the rest I'm proud of my team."
Cardiff manager Russell Slade: "We had total control for 35 minutes but we were disappointed with the second half as we performed so differently.
"We will have to look at the mental and physical side of our game. I thought our defending was poor for much of the second half."
