Match ends, Doncaster Rovers 2, Coventry City 0.
Coventry City had two men sent off as they crashed to defeat against a Doncaster side who won only their second home game of the season.
Adam Barton and James Maddison were sent off late on for two yellow cards after Rovers were already cruising.
Doncaster took the lead when Harry Forrester's cross was headed home by Andy Butler at the far post.
Forrester then scored an angled second off the far post after exchanging passes with Dean Furman.
Coventry played some excellent football as they battled hard to get back in the game but they never troubled home goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Skipper Jim O'Brien hit a good chance wide before the break, but Forrester almost grabbed a third when he grazed the post.
Coventry's hopes of a fightback were ended with the double dismissal of Barton and Maddison, both for fouls, in separate incidents within the space of two and a half minutes.
Doncaster manager Paul Dickov told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"We knew it would be a difficult game, we watched Coventry recently.
"Out of possession I thought the players were excellent again.
"The early goal helped and once we went 2-0 up we were pretty comfortable."
Sky Blues manager Steven Pressley told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:
"I felt confident we could come here and win, but when you have as much ball as we had, especially in the first half, we need to create much better opportunities than we did. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal.
"You can't give up the goals we did. We had a plan of how we wanted to play, but losing a goal after two minutes allows them to implement their game plan. It gave them confidence, something they've been lacking at home.
"I'm disappointed for our travelling supporters who came here in their numbers. But the one good thing about this time of year is that it's 48 hours and we've got the chance to put things right again."
