Charlton Athletic 1-2 Blackburn Rovers

Chris Taylor scored twice as Blackburn beat 10-man Charlton to reach the FA Cup fourth round, in a game interrupted by floodlight failure.

Taylor, starting his first match since 30 September, headed home early on to put Rovers ahead.

After a 12-minute delay in the first half because of the blackout, the hosts levelled through Johann Gudmundsson.

But four minutes later, Taylor finished from six yards to win the tie, as Charlton's Yoni Buyens was sent off.

By progressing from the third round of the competition, Rovers ended a five-game winless away run, while Championship rivals Charlton remain without a victory in nine attempts.

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer made six changes for the trip to The Valley, and it took Taylor just four minutes to score his first goal since August 2013.

Ben Marshall's ball was cleared to Craig Conway, whose deep cross was confidently headed in by the midfielder.

Gudmundsson and Johnnie Jackson both wasted good chances to level for the Addicks, before the floodlight failure after half an hour forced a delay in proceedings.

Following the restart, Chris Brown should have made it 2-0 but he headed straight into Neil Etheridge's hands.

Ten minutes after half-time, Iceland international Gudmundsson curled a sublime free-kick over the wall from 20 yards out, but the home side's joy was cut short.

An intricate Rovers attack started with Lee Williamson finding Brown, and his square pass was side-footed in by Taylor from close range.

Buyens was then dismissed after a second bookable offence, while Tom Cairney's late effort rattled Etheridge's crossbar.

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer:

"It was a great squad performance. We've got seven missing through injury, illness and suspension and it shows you the value of having a tight-knit squad.

"Chris Taylor has come in and scored two great goals so he'll be the hero.

"If you look at where we are in the league everybody above us is making bids to strengthen their squad, but if we have to go with what we've got then it's not a problem."

Charlton manager Bob Peeters:

"We only had 13 players available and our bench was an under-21 bench.

"If you see the players that Blackburn had on the bench, they're a strong team, but hopefully we will recover five or six players for the game against Brighton and that will make a difference."

Peeters also said he was keen to sign 21-year-old ex-Celtic striker Tony Watt, who is at Belgian side Standard Liege, who are also owned by Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet:

"Hopefully Tony Watt will sign this week. He did well last season and he will give you something up front. He has pace and scoring ability."
