Fleetwood Town 2-2 Swindon Town

Louis Thompson
Louis Thompson will join Norwich at the end of the season after agreeing a move in the summer.

Swindon came from two goals down to snatch a draw at Fleetwood and claim top spot in League One.

Town had the chance to take the lead in the first half, when Jeff Hughes caught Andy Williams in the box, but Michael Smith missed the resulting penalty.

Fleetwood looked to have secured the victory thanks to two Josh Morris strikes in the second half.

But a deflected Williams effort gave Swindon hope before Louis Thompson prodded past Chris Maxwell late on.

And with Bristol City involved in FA Cup action, Mark Cooper's Town side were able to move to the summit of the table on goal difference, while Fleetwood slipped to 12th.

The hosts confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe on a short-term deal prior to kick-off and the 20-year-old was named on the bench by Graham Alexander.

Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper told BBC Wiltshire:

Cooper on Fleetwood v Swindon

"At 2-0 down we didn't really panic, we just kept playing.

"I think it was probably the most one sided first-half I've ever seen. If you go in at 0-0 after that much dominance and missing that many chances then you're aware of what could happen.

"We said at half-time: Go and make it happen. We didn't and found ourselves 2-0 down.

"We changed it a little bit and got back in it and now we start the new year top."
