Conference strugglers Southport have allowed defender Clayton McDonald to leave the club after playing 13 games on non-contract terms.

The 26-year-old joined Southport in September following a month with League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

The ex-Walsall, Port Vale and Grimsby man's final match for the Sandgrounders was their Boxing Day loss to Wrexham.

"I am looking to build the squad and have informed Clayton that he isn't in my plans," said manager Gary Brabin.
