Reading 0-0 Middlesbrough

Reading v Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough have only lost twice in their last 17 Championship matches

Middlesbrough moved to within four points of Championship leaders Bournemouth after drawing at Reading.

Adam Reach had chances to put Boro ahead but shot into the side-netting and then fired over from close range.

Reading's Jordan Obita headed over and Hal Robson-Kanu was denied by away goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos.

But Royals keeper Adam Federici earned his side a draw by saving Albert Adomah's header and pushing Patrick Bamford's 25-yard shot on to the bar.

The result keeps Aitor Karanka's side fourth, but they move a point closer to Bournemouth, who suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat by Norwich City.

Reading's recent revival under new manager Steve Clarke also continues and they are now unbeaten in four matches in all competitions.

It was also another clean sheet for Middlesbrough, their fourth in a row, and they frustrated the hosts in a quiet opening 45 minutes.

Reading's best spell came early in the second half as Pavel Pogrebnyak headed over from Obita's free-kick, with Robson-Kanu, Michael Hector and Obita also missing chances.

However, Middlesbrough ended strongly but Federici denied Adomah, Bamford and Kike as it ended all square.

Reading manager Steve Clarke:

"As I said to the players after the game, we can thank Adam for our point this week. He's an experienced keeper, he's very safe, very solid.

"He doesn't make the nervous moments more nervous because he gets the ball, he catches it and he keeps it. I'm really pleased with him."

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka:

"We definitely lost two points. We created a lot of chances, very clear chances, and it's been the same story in other games.

"Their keeper was the man of the match. He was brilliant. We didn't play badly but we have to take our chances."
