Match ends, Walsall 1, Scunthorpe United 4.
Walsall suffered a third successive home league defeat as Scunthorpe earned a comfortable victory.
James Chambers smashed an attempted clearance into his own net and debutant Tom Hopper's clever shot gave the Iron a 2-0 half-time lead.
Michael Cain's low drive pulled one back for Walsall but Paddy Madden notched a third from the penalty spot following a foul on Neal Bishop.
Bishop's close-range shot then sealed an easy victory for the visitors.
Scunthorpe United boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Humberside:
"Eventually it became a convincing performance and a convincing win but I thought, like I said before the game, Walsall had a good team and they are a good team.
"I think we caught them at a decent time, when they've put a lot of energy in against Preston the other night.
"We had A game as well on the Tuesday night, we've had an extra days' recovery but I think to their credit Walsall try and play the right way.
"it was really, really difficult to play football today in the conditions and the pitch out there, but Walsall try and do it and they do it really well.
"They caused us problems and got into good shooting opportunities and did manage to take one. And then we got a grip of the game and ended up convincing winners, but it wasn't by no means an easy afternoon."
