Zambia coach Honour Janza has given the captain's armband to Rainford Kalaba after naming his 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The softly-spoken TP Mazembe midfielder takes over from defender Stopilla Sunzu who led the team during the qualifiers.
Sunzu told the coach that he wanted to give up the captaincy in order to concentrate on his defensive duties.
Janza named eight players who took part in Chipolopolo's 2012 Nations Cup winning campaign in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
There are three players from South Africa's Premier Soccer League - goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, Mukuka Mulenga and Davies Nkausu.
