Norwich City 1-2 Brentford

Brentford consolidated their position in the play-off places with a deserved win against a below-par Norwich City.

The Bees' Andre Gray spurned a great early chance before Jota's shot opened the scoring on the break for Brentford.

Norwich levelled against the run of play when Nathan Redmond's left-footed shot deflected past David Button.

Gray was fouled inside the area and Alex Pritchard converted from the spot to move the Bees past Derby into fourth, while Norwich drop to eighth.

The away side started much the brighter and could have been in front within a minute, Gray beating the offside trap only to lash over the bar.

The Canaries hit back and Brentford goalkeeper Button was forced into a save by Gary Hooper before Stuart Dallas fired over at the other end.

Brilliant Bees
The result was Brentford's first away win at Norwich since 1929.
Brentford have now won five of their last seven away games.

Brentford, led by the excellent Pritchard, were dominating possession and deservedly took the lead.

Steven Whittaker, playing out of position in central midfield, gave the ball away and the Bees broke to deadly effect, Gray teeing up Jota who placed a first-time finish past John Ruddy.

The equaliser came when Redmond cut inside from the right wing and saw his deflected shot find the net.

Ruddy saved from Jonathan Douglas' toe-poke before the Bees found the winner.

Gray backed into the area and drew the foul from both centre-backs and Pritchard struck the penalty down the middle.

Despite their poor performance, Norwich had chances to equalise. Bradley Johnson's long-range drive hit the crossbar and Cameron Jerome's follow-up was brilliantly saved by Button before Lewis Grabban was also denied by an excellent save.

The result ends new Norwich manager Alex Neil's 100% start and sees them drop off the play-off pace.
