Jersey footballers to face Royal Navy in friendly matches

Jersey men's and women's teams will face the Royal Navy in friendly matches on Saturday, 7 March.

The games will be the first for the island side on the new synthetic surface currently being laid at St Helier's Springfield stadium.

Jersey last played the Navy in March last year,

Jersey's FA is also hoping to confirm a date to play Union Sportive St Malo in France,

22 October:Beat 26th Army regiment 4-0 at home
4 January:Lose 8-0 to Union Sportive De St. Malo at home
7 March: Royal Navy
28 March: Alderney away (Muratti Vase semi-final)
4 May: Essex and Suffolk Border League
17 May: Guernsey away (Muratti Vase final, if Jersey beat Alderney)
27 June-3 July: Island Games

Should Springfield not be ready in time, the Jersey FA are in talks with one of the island's clubs to host the matches.

St Brelade hosted the St Malo game earlier this month, the first time the club has had an island side play at their ground.

There could be other matches for the island side as work to increase Jersey's fixture programme begins to bear fruit.

"Brian Little's working hard in the UK and we've got some good things happening there, so it's just a a matter of time," Jersey FA chief executive Neville Davidson told BBC Sport.
