Conference Premier strugglers Alfreton Town have signed teenage centre-back Niall Heaton on a free transfer from League One club Bradford City.

The 18-year-old ex-England schoolboy international started his career with the Bantams and rejoined them in 2013 after a spell with Liverpool.

But he did not play a first-team game for Bradford and has now signed an 18-month contract at Alfreton.

The Reds have also signed former Matlock Town left-back Joe Leesley, 20.

Heaton and Leesley, who has joined until the end of the season, take the number of players to join Alfreton in January to six following the capture of goalkeeper Jason Mooney, striker Joe Ironside, winger John Johnston and defender Callum Howe.
