Barnsley 2-1 Port Vale

Midfielder Ben Pearson scored his first career goal as Barnsley eased their League One relegation concerns with a home win against Port Vale.

Vale keeper Chris Neal fumbled into his own net to hand the Tykes the lead and 20-year-old Pearson, on loan from Manchester United, added the second with a deflected left-foot strike.

Colin Daniel hit back before Pearson cleared off the line from Tom Pope.

The win moves Barnsley into 17th place, while Port Vale slip to 14th.

Barnsley manager Danny Wilson told BBC Radio Sheffield:

Wilson on Barnsley v Port Vale

"We were a bit nervy at times, the first half in particular.

"I thought there were times when we had time to play and we got a bit edgy and some of the passing was a bit slow at times.

"And that just gives people a chance to close you down and put you under pressure.

"But the way we set out second half, we got a good goal straight away which always helps. And we saw it through. "
