Shrewsbury Town 1-1 Southend United

Tyrone Barnett
Tyrone Barnett's last appearance came in Peterborough's 3-1 JPT defeat by Orient in September

Debutant Tyrone Barnett hit a late equaliser for Shrewsbury against Southend to keep up his new side's unbeaten home League Two record.

But it could not prevent the morning leaders being knocked off the top, as Burton and Wycombe both won.

Barnett fired home with his left foot from inside the penalty area with five minutes remaining.

Old pals act at the Meadow
Town manager Micky Mellon and Southend boss Phil Brown were team-mates at the latter end of their playing days at Blackpool two decades ago. The Shrimpers are yet to win at the new Meadow, their last away win over Shrewsbury having come at the old Gay Meadow in January 2003.

Midfielder Jack Payne had put Southend ahead when he found the top-right corner with a right-foot shot.

Shrewsbury still boast the best home record in the country, having now won 12 and drawn three of their 15 league games, conceding just six goals.

Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"You have to be satisfied to get a point after you see a tight game like that. We had too many players off it - but in the end it was a good point and we deserved it."

"Tyrone had a great debut and to score is great for him. He played with the right level of aggression and it was a really good finish."

"When we aren't at our absolute best - you have to show your battling qualities and it shows how good we are to be able to do that. Southend are up there on merit."
