Transfer Deadline Day: Yakubu joins Reading

Yakubu scored 18 goals in 33 appearances for Blackburn Rovers

Former Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Nigeria striker Yakubu has joined Championship club Reading on a deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old, who has not played in England since leaving Blackburn in 2012, was a free agent after playing for Qatari club Al Rayyan.

He has a total of 114 league goals across spells at five English clubs.

"His addition will complement the strikers we've already got at Reading," said boss Steve Clarke.external-link

"I know all about him as a player and I have heard very good reports about him as a personality in the dressing room.

"He is no-risk signing for us and I look forward to him scoring goals for Reading Football Club."

The Yak's impressive scoring record
Yakubu is the second-highest African and highest Nigerian goalscorer in Premier League history, with a total of 95 goals to Didier Drogba's 101

In his last season in England with then-Premier League side Blackburn he scored 18 goals in 33 appearances.

Over a 12-year international career, Yakubu made 57 appearances for Nigeria and featured in the squad for the 2002 and 2010 World Cups.

Reading currently sit 16th in the Championship table, with Saturday's win against Sheffield Wednesday their first in four matches.

Yakubu misses an open goal as his side trail 2-1 to South Korea in their final Group A match at Moses Mabhida Stadium
