Nicky Ajose's strike was enough to defeat struggling Yeovil Town and take Crewe Alexandra seven points clear of the League One relegation zone.
The on-loan Leeds striker Ajose grabbed his seventh goal in 11 games when he met Marcus Haber's cross to tap in the winner seven minutes before the break.
Ajose could have sealed the win late on but shot wide when through on goal.
Gozie Ugwu wasted Yeovil's best chance before Ajose struck, shooting tamely at keeper Ben Garratt from close range.
Yeovil Town's acting manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset:
"We had nothing to lose at the end. We pushed forward, trying to get the equaliser, but you've got to give them credit. They defended really well.
"We had a lot of possession and a lot of play, but we couldn't get any goalscoring opportunities.
"I'm disappointed but the bigger picture is we're still ready to fight. We're not going to get too down after this."
