Serie A leaders Juventus let a 2-1 lead slip and missed a second-half penalty as they were held by plucky Cesena.

The league strugglers, who began the day second from bottom and on 15 points, took the lead when Milan Djuric sidefooted in.

It was 1-1 when Alvaro Morata headed home and Claudio Marchisio stabbed in moments later to give Juve the lead.

Franco Brienza made it 2-2 with a low drive, before Arturo Vidal struck a spot-kick wide of Nicola Leali's goal.

Despite the draw, Massimiliano Allegri's remain seven points ahead of Roma who were held to goalless draw at bottom side Parma.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia said: "If we have any ambitions, we should be winning and not having to settle for a result like this.

Inter's Fredy Guarin
Inter's Fredy Guarin has scored five goals in Serie A this season

"We only hit the target with four of our 20 shots. We're not going to score goals like that."

Elsewhere, Genoa beat Hellas Verona 5-2 for their first win at the Luigi Ferraris stadium since 7 December. They are now in sixth place.

There were mixed fortunes for the mid-table Milan sides. Inter picked up their second win in a row by beating 10-man Atalanta 4-1 - their next match is against Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Fredy Guarin scored twice, while Xherdan Shaqiri and Rodrigo Palacio grabbed the other goals for Roberto Mancini's men. Yohan Benalouane was sent off for Atalanta.

AC Milan could only draw against Empoli. Mattia Destro scored his first goal for Italian giants before former Middlesbrough forward Massimo Maccarone struck to earn a point.
