Port Vale 3-0 Doncaster Rovers

Port Vale secured a comfortable home victory against Doncaster, who slipped out of the League One play-off places.

Mark Marshall opened the scoring after six minutes, after latching onto Tom Pope's cross-field pass.

Goalkeeper Stephen Bywater then denied Marshall a second before Frederic Veseli made it 2-0 with a low shot from 30 yards out.

And Vale's third came three minutes from time when Byron Moore squeezed his shot inside the far post.

It ended Doncaster's run of three consecutive league victories and they moved down to seventh place on goal difference, while Vale jumped to 12th.

Doncaster manager Paul Dickov told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"There's a lot of disappointment. We contributed to our own downfall, especially in the first half.

"One thing we have been doing recently is defending really well.

"The first goal we gave the ball away in a silly area and let them break on us. Stephen's held his hand up for the second, but he's been great since he came in.

"We lacked a cutting edge in the final third. But credit to Port Vale, they've beaten us but we're disappointed with that."
