Millwall 1-3 Sheffield Wednesday

Ian Holloway
Millwall manager Ian Holloway has not overseen a home win since October

Millwall manager Ian Holloway faced calls for his sacking after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.

Lewis McGugan gave Wednesday the lead when he slotted home after a clinical counter-attack.

Atdhe Nuhiu doubled the visitors' lead, converting Jacques Maghoma's cross after a fine run by the Congolese midfielder.

Stevie May tapped in a third before Diego Fabbrini's late consolation.

Holloway was taunted with chants of "sacked in the morning" by both sets of fans as his side slipped to a 16th league defeat of the season.

The Lions have not recorded a victory at the Den since October and are third from bottom in the table.

However, they remain only three points from safety after Rotherham lost 3-0 at Watford.

Wednesday's first win in eight league games lifts them to 11th in the table.

Millwall manager Ian Holloway: "I'm just doing my job, and that is to keep my team believing. But unfortunately when we let a goal in it looked like we didn't. So I understand the crowd's reaction.

"But a huge part of that game was as good as we have been. I've never seen so many chances and scrambles and we haven't scored.

"When we let a goal in we don't look the same team. I want them to step up to the plate, but if people want to blame me that's how it is these days."

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray: "We deserved the win on our second-half performance.

"We knew they would come out of the traps and for the first 20 minutes we were hanging in there with some great defending.

"But after that we got the ball down and started to play and we were brave, then we took control of the game."
