An early goal from Lenell John-Lewis gave Grimsby their sixth win in seven games at the expense of Dover.
John-Lewis scored his 15th goal of the season at the second attempt after Mitch Walker blocked his initial shot.
Walker then denied Ollie Palmer and Aristote Nsiala as Town, now just three points off leaders Barnet, dominated.
Dover hit back after the break and James McKeown saved from Dan Holman, Stefan Payne and James Poole while Town also scrambled an effort off the line.
