Cardiff City manager Russell Slade lamented a defensive lapse after ex-Bluebird Rudy Gestede denied them a Championship win over Blackburn.
Sean Morrison's header put Cardiff 1-0 up, but Gestede did as Slade had feared to equalise late on in Cardiff.
"That was a much better performance," said "frustrated" Slade.
"There are signs of improvement and the pity is we were punished on the only occasion where we did not defend properly."
Cardiff climbed two spots to 15th as Slade had new head coach Paul Trollope in his dug-out for the first time since the new appointment.
They had hoped to shock promotion hopefuls Rovers, who beat the Premier League's Stoke City 4-1 in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Slade added: "We had much more energy and we really pressed the ball well and that is more in line with what I want to see from my team and what I have been saying I want to see.
"But that is not the end of it.
"There is still an awful lot of work to do and we still have a lot to get through between now and the next transfer window.
"They came in here very confident after their performance against Stoke at the weekend and we dealt with them very well."
