Southend United 2-0 Carlisle United

Southend strengthened their grip on a League Two play-off place after two second-half goals saw off Carlisle.

Shrimpers manager Phil Brown got the reaction he wanted after last week's 4-2 defeat by Stevenage.

After a goalless first-half Michael Timlin's stunning 20-yard shot broke the deadlock in the 50th minute.

Carlisle had penalty shouts rejected when Steven Rigg went down in a tussle with goalkeeper Ted Smith before Barry Corr's volley sealed the points.
