Barnsley 1-0 Coventry City

Barnsley striker George Waring
George Waring scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Barnsley for the second time in four days

George Waring scored the game's only goal as Barnsley beat Coventry City, who had newly appointed manager Tony Mowbray watching from the stand.

Martin Cranie headed Conor Hourihane's corner wide for the hosts before City's Marcus Tudgay struck the woodwork.

Waring then nodded in Hourihane's free-kick to net his second goal in a week.

Barnsley's Ben Pearson was forced into clearing Matthew Pennington's shot off the line to make it two wins out of two for new Tykes manager Lee Johnson.

Barnsley have now won four straight League One games to move up to 10th, within two points of the play-offs.

Coventry remain in 20th, stilll just one point above the relegation places.

Sky Blues manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"That's the harshness of football but, if you don't put the ball on the net, you don't win.

"We lost to a goal from a set play. Barnsley are number one in the division for scoring from set plays and we fell victim.

"There's plenty to work on. The result was disapppointing. Admittedly, it was a windy night on a bumpy pitch, but these are the days when you've just got to make sure you don't lose."
