Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's love for Burton despite loss

Hasselbaink has won ten of his 17 games in charge, losing just twice and taking the Brewers to the top of League Two

Burton Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says he "loves his players to bits" and they will not over-react to the 1-0 loss at Accrington Stanley.

The Brewers have only lost twice since Hasselbaink replaced Gary Rowett in November and remain top of League Two.

"I am very proud of them and how they have been since I have been here," Hasselbaink told BBC Radio Derby.

"I love them to bits because they show courage and keep on going until the last minute. I cannot fault them."

The defeat ended a 13-game unbeaten run, but the Brewers remain three points clear of second-placed Shrewsbury - albeit the Shrews have a game in hand.

Hasselbaink added: "We have been on a great run and we knew there would always be a game where it would be difficult, and it was.

"We didn't go crazy when we were winning and we won't go crazy when we are losing.

The defeat was the first since the 1-0 reverse against second-placed Shrewsbury in November.

"It could have been a draw but it wasn't meant to be. But the players been absolutely magnificent.

"It is disappointing. In the first half we didn't play as we could play.

"They scored out of the blue and that put us on the back foot. But in the second half we took the game to them. In the second half we were the better team. We had chances but our final pass and final decision was not right.

"We took an extra touch that we didn't need to take and that was the difference. It was not our day."

Hasselbaink, said the approach for the remaining 13 games - starting with Newport at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday - will be the same to his previous 17 in charge.

"We stay level headed. There is still a lot of work to be done," he said.
