Hartlepool United 0-1 Burton Albion

Florent Cuvelier
Florent Cuvelier scored on his debut after joining Burton Albion on loan from Sheffield United on Friday.

Debutant Florent Cuvelier struck a last-minute winner to give Burton victory over Hartlepool and send them back to the top of League Two.

Lucas Akins was booked for diving early on after going down in the box as Hartlepool's Dan Jones made the tackle.

In a game of few chances, it was Pools who often looked the more threatening as Marlon Harewood went close with two first-half efforts.

But substitute Cuvelier broke Pools hearts with his close-range winner.

The defeat was bottom club Hartlepool's fourth in five games, while Burton's win ended a two-game losing run and put them two points clear of Shrewsbury at the top.

Burton Albion boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink told BBC Radio Derby:

"After the two previous games it was important that we showed up and that we were compact and organised and that we showed character as a team.

"It was always going to be a tight game. They are fighting for their lives, they're not going to give a lot away, they're not going to give a lot of space away and they didn't.

"Today we were solid. We didn't take risks in areas where we don't have to take risks and then we tried to play in the last third. Our final part was not always the best but that's something we can work on."
