Chris Wood: Leicester City future 'up in the air' for Ipswich loanee

Chris Wood has featured nine times this season for Nigel Pearson's Leicester

Ipswich Town loanee Chris Wood has said his future at parent club Leicester City is uncertain.

The 23-year-old striker has made just one Premier League start for the Foxes this season and joined Town on loan last week, making his debut in Sunday's 2-0 Championship loss at Norwich.

"I'm focusing on the next 12 or 14 games," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"My focus is on helping Ipswich. My future is up in the air. I don't know what's going to happen."

Wood scored eight goals in 29 games for Leicester last season, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

But the arrivals of Leonardo Ulloa in the summer and Andrej Kramaric in January have pushed the New Zealand international down the pecking order.

"It's one of those things. Sometimes you need a Premier League striker when you go up," said Wood. "I never got a chance, but hopefully one day I will get that chance.

"I have all the confidence in myself - hopefully when I do get that chance, I will take it."

Wood established his career with a series of loan spells away from West Bromwich Albion, where he made his first-team breakthrough, before joining Leicester in January 2013.

Ipswich are the eighth different club he has represented in the past five years, and he admits he would like some stability.

"I was hoping to do that at Leicester, but it hasn't worked out so far," he said. "It's football. Not many people stay at a club for a long period of time any more. It's very rare."
