Hibernian striker Jason Cummings knocked in his 15th goal of the season

Hibernian moved seven points clear of Rangers in the race for second place in the Championship after a comfortable win at Central Park.

The visitors dominated possession on a bumpy, heavy pitch.

And the breakthrough goal came on 32 minutes when Fraser Fyvie met David Gray's delivery to crack in a first-time shot from 18 yards.

Jason Cummings added a second soon after when he intercepted a poor back-pass and touched the ball home.

Alan Stubbs' side have now won seven games in a row and stretch their unbeaten run to 15 matches.

Rangers, who drew their third consecutive league match on Stuart McCall's debut as manager, visit Easter Road next Sunday after playing one of their two games in hand at Alloa on Tuesday.

Franck Dja Djedje sent a half-volley over and Cummings also shot too high as Hibs opened strongly.

The game continued to flow in the direction of home goalkeeper Robbie Thomson, who was beaten when Fyvie fired in his first Hibs goal since his January move as he connected with a good Gray pass.

The second goal owed much to poor defending as Colin Marshall's slack pass was picked off by the lurking Cummings and he tapped into the net, with Thomson claiming in vain for offside.

Hibs continued to control much of the game after the break and the Blue Brazil failed to mount a serious challenge with Kenneth Adamson firing over the bar from their best chance.
