Hannover 96 1-3 Bayern Munich

Thomas Muller
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has now scored 10 goals in the Bundesliga this season

Thomas Muller scored twice as Bayern Munich came from behind to beat Hannover 3-1, increasing their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 11 points.

Hannover had taken a surprise lead against the champions through Hiroshi Kiyotake, but Xabi Alonso equalised for Bayern with a superb curling free-kick.

Germany forward Muller put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot after the break and then powerfully headed in a third.

Second-placed Wolfsburg lost ground after a 1-0 loss away to Augsburg.

Dominik Kohr scored the decisive goal for Augsburg when he slotted in the rebound after Tobias Werner's initial penalty was saved by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio.

After beating Hannover, Bayern have 61 points with 14 games of the Bundesliga season remaining, as they close in on a 25th league title.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola explained his decision to withdraw Brazilian defender Dante after 32 minutes was for "tactical reasons" and not to make a point about the player's performance.

Guardiola said: "I usually do not change in the initial phase. But I did not like what I saw. That's why I changed something."

A brace from Max Meyer and one from Christian Fuchs helped Roberto Di Matteo's fourth-placed Schalke secure a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim which increased their Champions League hopes. Hoffenheim scored a late consolation through Kevin Volland.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund were held to a goalless draw away at Hamburg while Franco Di Santo scored the only goal of the game for Werder Bremen at Freiburg.

In the late kick-off, Borussia Monchengladbach threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Mainz as Raffael's brace was cancelled out by goals from Johannes Geis and Shinji Okazaki.
