Swindon Town loan midfielder Louis Thompson could miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a shoulder ligament injury.
The 20-year-old last featured in a 0-0 draw at Crewe on 28 February.
Thompson was signed by Norwich for an initial fee of £600,000 in September, but loaned back to the Wiltshire club for the rest of the season.
"I do not think Louis will be featuring before the end of the season," Swindon boss Mark Cooper told BBC Wiltshire.
"I still want him in the changing room, because he has a positive influence."
Thompson has made 37 appearances in all competitions for the League One club this season.
"He has given us tremendous effort, desire and ability. He has contributed to what has, so far, been a really good season," Cooper added.
"The surgeon felt it (the surgery) needed to be done, so he would not have any problems in the future.
"That is more important for his career. It was a ligament in his shoulder that had torn and had to be repaired."
