Portsmouth 0-2 Shrewsbury Town

Bobby Grant
Bobby Grant has scored six goals for Shrewsbury since joining them from Blackpool in October

Two Bobby Grant goals helped Shrewsbury Town move within two points of League Two leaders Burton with victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Shrewsbury dominated the early stages before Grant's long-range effort curled past Paul Jones to give them the lead.

The home side began strongly after the break, with Wes Fogden twice failing to score from close range.

But Pompey's defence could not contain Grant, who drove home Liam Lawrence's pass to ensure victory.

Burton could restore their five-point lead at the top on Monday when they host Stevenage.

Portsmouth manager Andy Awford speaks to BBC Radio Solent:

"Disappointed with the result, it goes without saying. The goal has knocked the stuffing out of us and we have got to react better to going behind.

"Today we gave the ball away too cheaply in my opinion and we got punished by a decent side.

"We certainly need to up our game when we go to Carlisle next week and we will train hard on the training pitch and keep practising and work as hard as we possibly can to put it right but at the moment we look short of confidence."
