Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Aaron Pierre
Aaron Pierre has now scored three goals in the league this season

Aaron Pierre's strike saw League Two promotion-chasers Wycombe claim victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Sam Wood's left-footed drive from the centre of the box forced a good early save out of home keeper Mark Cousins.

Alfie Mawson and Pierre both went close for the Chairboys before Matt Ingram had to tip over Jamie Cureton's header at the other end.

Pierre finally found the breakthrough as the Daggers failed to clear a corner and he reacted quickest to stab home.

The win was Wycombe's 12th away victory of the season, and sees the Chairboys consolidate an automatic promotion place, with fourth-placed Bury now seven points behind after their game with Southend was abandoned. It also leaves them two points behind league leaders Burton, who play on Monday.

Dagenham remain 15th in the table, 11 points above the relegation zone.

Dagenham & Redbridge first-team coach Warren Hackett told BBC London 94.9:

"I'm very disappointed, it was a very scrappy game. Not much football was played in the very windy conditions.

"Wycombe were very direct and they've been consistently doing that all season, that's why they are top of the league.

"Knowing Jamie Cureton, he'll be very disappointed that he didn't finish, but he's always in the right place at the right time to get the opportunity.

"I didn't think we played our game today, we didn't really get the ball down and play as much as we wanted to."

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"I think we deserved the win. The shot count and the possession stats will say that. We didn't get troubled too much by Dagenham.

"To come away with the three points is fantastic. I'm not going to think it's Wycombe Wanderers' year until I know the final table. There's still no pressure.

"They were tired today, which showed. That gives me a little heads up for the Easter programme. It was a tough, tough game today. They're still going to turn teams over here and I'm glad we weren't one of them.

"To take as many points as we can over the Easter period is the intention, and we'll see where we are."
