Nathan Austin's double and an own-goal from Jonathan Crawford ensured East Fife have yet to lose successive matches at Bayview this season.
Montrose went close early on when Scott Johnston headed the ball over the crossbar, before Austin nodded in player-manager Gary Naysmith's cross.
Crawford steered the ball into his own net and Austin soon extended the advantage.
Graham Webster hit the crossbar for Montrose late on.
