Rochdale kept alive their slim League One play-off hopes and left Leyton Orient deep in relegation trouble by earning a narrow win at Spotland.
Top scorer Ian Henderson was the match winner - driving the ball into the top corner after Peter Vincenti cut the ball back in the 66th minute.
Dale goalkeeper Josh Lillis had to save a Dean Cox volley and Nathan Clarke header as the visitors pressed.
But at the other end David Mooney nearly headed into his own net.
And late on Rochdale's Jamie Allen fired wide when clean through on goal while O's goalkeeper Alex Cisak saved from Calvin Andrew and Ashley Eastham.
Rochdale are five points behind sixth-placed Chesterfield with two matches of the season remaining.
Leyton Orient are two points shy of safety going into their last two games.
