Chester 1-4 Forest Green Rovers

Jon Parkin
Parkin opened the scoring with a penalty after a foul on Kurtis Guthrie

Forest Green Rovers moved back into the Conference play-off positions with an impressive victory at Chester.

Jon Parkin put the visitors in front with a penalty before the 33-year-old striker headed in a second as he took his tally to 15 goals in 16 games.

Kurtis Guthrie had a shot saved by Jon Worsnop before Elliot Frear scored from the rebound to extend Rovers' lead.

John Rooney curled in a free-kick for Chester but Aarran Racine poked in a shot to add gloss for Rovers.

It was Chester's second heaviest defeat of the Easter weekend, having been beaten 5-1 at Bristol Rovers on Good Friday.

Chester manager Steve Burr told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"Defensively we were awful. I'm really disappointed with the goals we conceded, although we were not helped by losing our two centre-halves.

"I've got Michael Kay with eight stitches in his forehead and Matty Brown in hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

"We're in the middle of a bad run, but we set out this season to make sure that we didn't put ourselves in the same position as we did last year and we've done that."

Forest Green manager Ady Pennock told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"We showed a lot of character today, in the first half we came out of the traps really well.

"Jon Parkin was top class, I think he was unlucky with the one that was offside, but what a finish it was. I was desperate for him to get a hat-trick because he deserved it.

"It is now about us just winning games and next week is a big game for us against Macclesfield, but today I'm very pleased with the boys."
