French Ligue 1

Monaco 1-1 St Etienne

Monaco celebrate
Monaco teenager Anthony Martial has scored five goals in his last four league games

Monaco missed the chance to close the gap on Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain to three points as they drew with St Etienne.

Leonardo Jardim's team have come into form, having been 14 points off the top in December, and were looking to push themselves back into the title race.

But they fell behind to fifth-placed St Etienne when Mevlut Erding headed home Franck Tabanou's brilliant cross.

Anthony Martial volleyed home a leveller moments after coming on.

Champions League quarter-finalists Monaco looked set for a season of mid-table obscurity after downscaling in the summer and losing James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao - to Real Madrid and Manchester United respectively.

They sat 10th after 15 games, but since then have won 10 and drawn four to move into contention to qualify for the Champions League - or maybe more.

They play Juventus in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, having knocked Arsenal out in the last round on away goals.

Champions PSG play third-placed Marseille on Sunday (20:00 BST), with second-placed Lyon away to Guingamp on Saturday (16:00 BST).
