Goals from Seamus Sharkey and Mark Timlin saw Derry City beat Sligo Rovers 2-0 after extra-time in the second round of the EA Sports Cup.
Sharkey headed into the bottom corner from six yards out 12 minutes into the first period of extra-time.
Timlin dispatched a curling shot into the bottom corner in the 113th minute.
Sligo had been reduced to 10 men on 77 minutes when substitute Daniel Ledwith was sent-off for a challenge on Seanan Clucas two minutes after coming on.
It was a game of few chances but Derry did just enough to make the last eight.
Anthony Elding and Sharkey both headed over in the early stages, while David Cawley fired over for the home side at the Showgrounds.
Ger Doherty made a fine save to deny John Russell and Gary Boylan shot over before the break.
Doherty was helpless as another Russell effort cannoned off the post in the second half, then Ledwith was shown a straight red card shortly after entering the fray.
Sharkey's header appeared to take a slight deflection on its way into the net and Timlin made victory sure with a fine finish past Richard Brush.
