Hartlepool remain outside the League Two relegation zone despite falling to a third successive defeat at Luton.
The Hatters, who are only outside the play-off places on goal difference, went in front when Cameron McGeehan headed home.
Jake Howells doubled their lead from the penalty spot after Shaun Whalley was tripped in the area.
Elliot Justham did well to keep out Marlon Harewood's deflected free-kick before Scott Griffiths made it 3-0.
Pools are one point above 23rd-placed Cheltenham and host play-off hopefuls Exeter City next week.
John Still's side travel to Southend, who still have a chance of securing automatic promotion.
Luton Town coach Terry Harris told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"It was a fantastic start, we knew today was an important game. We said let's be in the mix for next Saturday, one game at a time.
"We did play with a tempo, certainly in the second half it was difficult to keep the tempo, especially when we were 2-0 up anyway. Once we got the third goal it sort of killed the game.
"That bad run, when it comes, is like a runaway train at times. Keep playing through it and it will turn. And I think it has. We haven't conceded now for three or four games."
