Guernsey FC can only finish as high as tenth in the Isthmian League Division One South after they drew their final away game 1-1 at Herne Bay.
The hosts went ahead when Mark Lovell tapped in but Marc McGrath levelled from a corner with five minutes left.
"It was an awful game to be fair," manager Tony Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"I think both teams got a point and the pitch got three - that's a general summary of the way it was."
Guernsey needed to beat Herne Bay, who are one place above them, to have a chance of overtaking them on the final day.
Vance's side have won just one of their last six games in the Isthmian League Division One South and end their campaign with a home match against sixth placed Worthing.
"We probably could've nicked it because we had two really good chances which didn't quite go our way," Vance added.
"I'm really pleased with the goal we've scored because it's a set-piece - we hadn't scored one for about two-and-a-half years."
