Celta Vigo 2-4 Real Madrid

Javier Hernandez is up to six La Liga goals in 18 games

Javier Hernandez scored twice as Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo in an entertaining game to keep the pressure on leaders Barcelona.

Nolito opened the scoring for mid-table Celta Vigo with a dribble and finish, but Toni Kroos levelled from 16 yards.

Hernandez played a couple of one-twos with James Rodriguez before putting Real ahead, but Santiago Mina tapped home from close range to level.

Rodriguez scored a deflected strike and Hernandez sealed it after the break.

The Mexican's career at Real Madrid seems to be just lifting off as he comes towards the end of his loan spell from Manchester United, having scored the winner against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday to take them into the Champions League semi-finals.

The 26-year-old took 24 games, albeit mostly as a substitute, to score his first five goals for Real.

But he has taken advantage of injuries to Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to score three crucial goals in Real's season in the space of five days.

Having scored the only goal of the European Cup quarter-final tie, his goals on Sunday keep Real just two points off leaders Barcelona.

In a remarkably open game, Celta led when Nolito broke into the box and fired a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Kroos equalised with a shot into the top corner from 16 yards after Cristiano Ronaldo's cross was deflected into his path.

Hernandez then scored his first as he picked up the ball with his back to goal 30 yards away, and fired home low after help from Rodriguez.

But Celta were not done and levelled again when Mina hit the post and, after keeper Iker Casillas had committed himself, was able to fire in the rebound.

Ronaldo hit the post after being picked out by Hernandez, before the Portuguese assisted Rodriguez, who fired home via a deflection.

Celta started the second half well, but Real got the winning goal when Sergio Ramos played a ball forward, which Hernandez controlled in the box before firing home.

The striker did not have a chance to take his hat-trick, as he was replaced with 17 minutes left - perhaps with Wednesday's league match with Almeria in mind.

Meanwhile, Sevilla moved back into the top four by beating Rayo Vallecano 2-0. Malaga drew 1-1 with struggling Deportivo La Coruna and Almeria beat relegation rivals Eibar 2-0.
