Dundee 1-1 Aberdeen

By Kheredine IdessaneBBC Scotland at Dens Park

An equaliser deep into stoppage time from substitute Adam Rooney salvaged a point for Aberdeen against Dundee at Dens Park.

Luka Tankulic looked to have given the hosts their first home league win over the Dons in 11 years when he pounded on a mistake by Donovan Daniels

However Rooney was on hand to grab his 28th goal of the season with the Dons throwing everyone forward.

The draw ends a run of five straight defeats for Paul Hartley's men.

It also means Aberdeen break the record set by Hearts for the most points in a season outside Celtic and Rangers, with the Dons now on 75 for the season.

Manager Derek McInnes made five changes for this match, bringing back Peter Pawlett and giving run-outs to Cammy Smith, David Goodwillie, Lawrence Shankland and Daniels.

The opening exchanges won't be particularly memorable other than for a series of Dundee corners and a curling shot flashed just wide by arguably Dundee's man of the season, Greg Stewart.

It took Aberdeen nearly 20 minutes to find their stride, and when they did, it meant plenty of work for the home keeper Kyle Letheren; first blocking a Peter Pawlett shot then reacting superbly to tip a point-blank David Goodwillie header over the bar.

Goodwillie had another great chance minutes later but headed wastefully over from six yards when referee Euan Anderson played a clever advantage after Pawlett was up-ended near the corner flag.

The Dons profligacy was nearly punished immediately, but a good shot on the turn from Tankulic was tipped round the post by an alert Scott Brown, his first real taste of the action in the Aberdeen goal.

Then, 10 minutes before half-time, only a frantic scramble by several Dundee defenders kept the marauding Dons at bay , with Lawrence Shankland eventually hitting his own player Goodwillie when he could well have scored.

Imagine Aberdeen's frustration then when a weak header back to towards his keeper by Daniels was pounced upon by Tankulic, cooling flicking the ball up and over the advancing Letheren in between the posts for the German's third goal of the season.

A Barry Robson pile-driver from outside the box almost brought Aberdeen level just before the hour but Letheren was equal to it, diving to his left to divert the effort wide.

Paul McGowan almost put Dundee 2-0 up late on but lifted his shot over.

Then came the late drama; joy for the large travelling support who left with a point. Frustration for the home fans that their side couldn't hold on for what would have been a morale-boosting win.
