Forfar have a two-goal advantage to take to Recreation Park after Michael Travis' late goal in the first-leg of the Scottish Championship play-off final against Alloa.

Omar Kader gave the home side a dream start when he took advantage of a goalkeeper error to net the opener.

Chris Templeton headed in a second but on-loan Dundee man Kyle Benedictus pulled one back.

Forfar were always the more dominant and Travis headed in a deserved third.

Alloa will now need to overturn the deficit when the sides meet again on Sunday in Clackmannanshire.

Forfar's opener arrived with a little bit of help from the plastic pitch; Martyn Fotheringham's shot was a miss-hit, but Danny Denholm was able to get his head to it and direct it towards goal.

The ball took an awkward bounce off the surface, hitting the chest of Alloa goalkeeper John Gibson and landing invitingly in front of Kader who knocked the ball into the net.

It should have been 1-1 after 22 minutes when Liam Buchanan was free inside the box, but his shot was at the right height for veteran goalkeeper Robert Douglas to push clear.

And the lead was doubled when Gavin Swankie sent in a cross for Templeton to head in.

Steven Hetherington flashed an inviting ball across goal but no Alloa striker could take advantage, and then Benedictus had to clear off his own goal-line.

However the centre-half, in front of watching Dens Park manager Paul Hartley, made his presence felt at the other end when he got up highest to meet Iain Flannigan's cross and give Danny Lennon's men hope.

Forfar continued to be the aggressors though and after Gavin Malin shot wide, he sent in a corner that Travis needed to get just the slightest of touches to in order to turn it into the net.
