Queen's Park could not keep out Colin McMenamin's header and it proved decisive

Stenhousemuir survived a nervous second half to secure their League One status for another season.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Brown Ferguson's men looked in command when Colin McMenamin headed an early opener.

League Two Queen's Park battled away and Shaun Fraser's equaliser set up an enthralling end to the match.

They just could not find the second goal that would have forced extra-time and will have to mount another promotion push next season.

There was relief all round at full-time for Stenny, who will look to rebuild over the summer to avoid a repeat of this drama.

The outcome looked to be a formality when Stenhousemuir doubled their aggregate advantage inside three minutes.

Their talented winger Paul McMullan, on loan from Celtic, curled a corner in from the right and the veteran goal-getter McMenamin glanced the ball past William Muir.

The home side dominated proceedings with McMullan, Bryan Hodge and Anthony Marenghi all going close, but failing to put the tie beyond Queen's Park.

Gus McPherson's team went for broke after the interval, pushing Tony Quinn up front and their endeavour paid dividends as Fraser bundled in, with home keeper Greg Fleming claiming for a foul.

The tension was getting to Stenhousemuir who were coming under increasing pressure, but Shaun Rooney and John Carter could not convert good opportunities.

In the dying minutes Paul Woods had a stunning volley pushed away by Fleming to end Queen's Park's hopes of promotion.
